About WOTIO

Why WOTIO exists

Most automation projects fail for the same reason: someone bought a tool before anyone understood the work. The software gets built around the tidy version of a process — the one in the documentation — instead of the messy, real one people actually follow. So it automates the wrong steps, breaks on the exceptions, and quietly gets abandoned.

WOTIO starts from the opposite end. Before automating anything, we map how your business actually runs — every step, handoff, and workaround. Only then do we decide what’s worth automating, and build it. Understanding first, automation second. It’s a slower start and a far better finish.

What we believe

Three convictions behind the work

The work comes before the tool

Automation is the easy part. Knowing what to automate — and what to leave alone — is where the value is, and it’s the part everyone skips.

Software and people, not one or the other

Our platform captures and scores how you work. Our people turn that into systems that hold up in the real world. You get both, because neither is enough on its own.

Start small, compound

The first workflow we map becomes a living record of your operation. Every automation after it is faster to find and cheaper to build. The value grows the longer we work together.

Who’s behind WOTIO

25 years of understanding how things work

WOTIO was founded by Brian Wilhelm, who has spent 25 years working where design, technology, and business meet.

He started as an industrial designer — prototyping early Plasma TVs and WebTV at Philips — before the web pulled him into building digital products. He co-founded two studios, built custom content-management and B2B e-commerce systems for clients including Philips, and spent years driving digital and e-commerce growth for retail and DTC brands, from Jewelry Television — whose site earned back-to-back Internet Retailer Hot 100 honors — to Justice and Highlights.

More recently he’s worked at enterprise scale, creating a digital studio built to launch a Fortune 100 consumer-goods company’s next billion-dollar DTC brands — using rapid digital testing to cut months off product go-to-market timelines. Today he leads digital and IT strategy for a fast-growing B2B division of that company.

That path — from designing physical products, to writing the code behind e-commerce systems, to setting IT strategy inside a Fortune 100 company — is why WOTIO works the way it does. Mapping a business before changing it isn’t something Brian read in a playbook; it’s how he’s had to think for a quarter century. Understand the system first. Then make it better.

He holds a degree in Industrial Design from the University of Cincinnati and certifications in Disruptive Strategy and AI.
